Day 9 - Riding to Creede
A big part of this trip, for me, is going to parts of the state that I haven’t been to yet. Today I biked through Del Norte, and stopped into a bakery based on a rec I got from someone on Kit Carson. My goal for the day was to make it to Creede and ride up to the San Luis Peak trailhead. Creede is another one of those towns that I’ve heard about but never been over to.
When I made it to Creede I recognized the Main Street immediately from so many pics I’d seen.

While tooling around, trying to decide where I was going to eat I saw my friend Keith just walking down the road (he doesn’t live anywhere near Creede). Turns out he’d seen some other touring cyclists and was thinking about me shortly before I called out his name. I love the bike magic of touring.

The ride up to the San Luis Peak trailhead is 8 miles and several thousand feet of climbing. It involved a lot of walking for me, so late in the day. I also had my first positive tubeless experience - I noticed at one point that my tire was hissing and saw the sealant bubble out and then seal. It’s kind of magic.

It’s going to be nice to have a Class 1 14er and not some exposed traverse to do in the morning.
